  1. I just want y’all to know that I’m working my way through a bag of rice right now (eating it with jerk chicken for dinner today) while I don’t like rice, I will eat it if it means I don’t have to spend money on takeout 😂

  2. Your gym routine is ironically a great description of what bopo people refer to as “joyful movement”. Losing weight and/or getting in shape doesn’t have to be about bench pressing a baby whale and drinking protein shake for every meal, it can be a lot easier.

  3. I used to work at a logistic company and at Starbucks. I gained a lot of weight because I was addicted to the sugary drinks and I wasn’t active. I quit the both jobs and went to a warehouse as a package handler. I’ve lost weight and felt more energized. I started going to smoothie king and chipotle more often. I lost a lot of weight. Now I work at Whole Foods and FedEx Ground. I used Whole Foods to teach me about what is real food is. I use FedEx as a gym. I feel like changing jobs can help with health. It depends how you use jobs. I’m glad I made the change and I don’t plan to go back to how I was. Instead of gyms, how about working in a warehouse? It’s like a gym that pays you.

  4. 11:44 make it work for you! Best advice when it comes to fitness. The workouts / foods you can actually stick to are the ones that will help you be the most successful

  5. If you’re low carb, go for the frozen veggies or vacuum seal and freeze fresh ones. They’re cheap and will last in the freezer, along with your chicken, fish, etc. Also, you can use frozen fruit for smoothies. You can definitely make it work on a low budget.

  6. Man, I could listen to you just spit facts ALL DAY.

I’d also be really interested in the food desert video! When I was living in one and in poverty I was too scared to spend my money on food I was scared I could accidentally waste. I was walking a mile and a half to grab what I could from the small grocery store to save money but I was always too exhausted to figure out what was cost beneficial. I was pretty malnourished at the time and the mental effort felt overwhelming all the time.

  7. Can we also just talk about how you literally feel better after eating healthy for a whole day/week/month? You’re not going to bed with a belly ache from the fast food you consume! At least in my experience! Another Great Vid from Alana!!!

  8. I love your food desert idea. showing how to apply these principals on health for folks that don’t have a lot of money in a way that’s actually applicable to their situation would be tremendously helpful.

  10. You’re so right, our ancestor’s foods are delicious and hearty, but that’s because they were much more active than we are and they needed to maximize calories due to scarcity. It’s hard to shift from that mindset in an abundant world.

  11. With inflation, making healthier choices also means saving money. Cutting out fast food saves loads, also learning to eat simpler. I buy less fresh produce but more frozen fruit and vegetables, not ideal but it works. Also going to local Caribbean, Latin, and Asian markets for meat. But education is important, I grew up country with few fast food options so I cook the way I was taught by my grandma.

  12. My workout routine is cheap and I have never been to a commercial gym. Here are some of the things I do on the cheap:
-I literally run in my apartment, no treadmill.
-I use 3 pairs of dumbbells.
-I walk/jog with my dog around the parking lot of my complex.
-I workout to various videos on YouTube like blogilates and growwithjo.

With these workouts paired with gradual changes to my diet, I’ve lost over 45 pounds in a year.

  13. Walking is extremely impactful. Especially if you are just starting out. Watched a Thomas DeLauer video about this too. I did get an expensive gym membership bc they have an indoor pool.😂 I plan to use the gym for other stuff and go five times a week most of the time. Use to competitively swim, so I wanted to try again. Kind of made me sad when I realized I haven’t swam since I was 16/17. I’m 24 now and I was an avid swimmer as a kid. It just makes you realize how much binge eating ruins your life, especially your hobbies. But yeah, there’s no excuses to say you can’t exercise if you’re able-bodied.

Also, fat acceptance people shit their pants at the word “lazy.” I mean yes, I understand it’s been used to stereotype or undermine those that are overworked. We can’t say that finding every excuse in the book to not do something isn’t lazy tho…

  14. I love this take. I have been losing weight this past year after finally getting my head out of my ass and undoing the fat acceptance talking points I learned in my teens and 20s. I am disabled and I’m on food stamps and I managed to lose 50lbs without spending a crazy amount of money. I’ve been getting shit from people for sharing my progress saying that I’m fatphobic and it just makes no sense. I have been disabled and obese for years and now that I’m finally getting myself in order people are saying I’m a bad person. 😵‍💫 Make it make sense

  15. I’m not surprised from the numbers. But we have to remember this is just fast food! Not process food, chips, chocolate, soda!!! I’m sure if those are included the numbers are bigger.
