  1. I love your videos! It’s great to have a running buddy 🙂 I headed into the holidays at 178 and came out the other end at 184… chocolate and frosted sugar cookies are my kryptonite. This is my year to try an ultra distance too. There is an event that is “do as many laps in 8 hours as you can” at a park on a 1-1/2 mile trail. I did a similar event last year and did 20 miles in 6 hours (I had a knee injury a few months before so was woefully unprepared). I highly encourage strength training: legs, core, and upper body. I’ve been strength training since I was 16 (45 years ago *yikes!*) and love the feeling of my whole body being strong and capable. Plus I think it adds longevity to any sport we want to do, especially us women. There are some great YouTube creators out there with running specific strength workouts, a favorite of my is Messy Happy. Anyhoo, great success to you, I know you will have a great 2023 and a great Ultra!

  2. I introduced strength training to complement my running about 18 months ago and the benefit was incredible. I also dropped some weight during that time, but noticed I was losing some muscle mass. I upped my protein intake and that has helped me regain the muscle. Just something to keep an eye on!
As for goals it’s a mix of race/PB focused, got a HM in March. Then it’ll be some 5K / Mile work with (hopefully) some 5K racing. HM in Sept, and then try to run a fast 10K in Oct/Nov.
Just come back off a injury niggle, so good to know the fitness doesn’t disappear overnight 😅
    Good luck for 2023!! 🎉🚀

  6. Great work Lucy. Look forward to hearing your progress as you smash those goals. I’m planning to PB at 5k, 10k, HM as I build to Budapest Marathon in October which is entered and flights/hotel booked. Goal is marathon in sub 3hr 50m. Cherish the pain, it don’t kill you only makes you stronger 😃
