If I could choose which food would lose its power with the press of a button, it would definitely be peanut butter, and sugar (added sugars). When I am overly stressed, I forget to eat. At the end of the night, my body starts screaming about its needs. I can’t sleep if I’m hungry, so a spoon or two of peanut butter is enough so that I can go to bed right away without spending time preparing and eating. I’ve had issues with this before, during college (ADHD), but it’s never been so frequent and consistent. I can feel my body isn’t nourished the way it should be.
My mom used to make “peanut butter balls” out of powdered milk, honey, and peanut butter, as a snack to help me gain weight, when I was about 5-7yo. Kids made fun of the homemade treats, so I stopped eating them during elementary school. When I do eat peanut butter as a meal, I mix a bit of honey in it. I thought it was just a craving, I never considered the connection with my childhood; my mom illustrated her love via PB & honey. 🍯
I have food allergies and it does make it more difficult to find options that aren’t overly processed. Not impossible, though!!
